Air Conditioning Maintenance

Air Conditioning Maintenance

To extend the use of your air conditioning system, arranging a regular preventative maintenance will not only maximise the lifespan of your air conditioning, it will keep your energy costs down throughout the year too! As air conditioning efficiency can decrease by 5% a year or even more for older systems, it is important your system is maintained by experienced air conditioning engineers so you can make the most of your investment.
As the top air conditioning service provider in the Midlands, MAC can provide flexible payment options on maintenance packages for residential air conditioning, giving you the option to make a single payment for your annual service or in smaller monthly instalments. Alternatively, for air conditioning maintenance at multiple commercial or industrial premises, MAC can also provide options on ongoing maintenance contracts based on your needs, from ducted air conditioning to chillers, our mobile engineers have you covered.
If you require regular maintenance our mobile engineers are on call for both domestic and commercial sites throughout the Midlands

How to tell whether your air conditioning needs maintenance

Unusual Odours also coming from your air conditioning is also a sign your air conditioner needs professional cleaning due to an accumulation of dust and debris or even mould due to moisture buildup from obstructed condensation drainage.

Reduced Cooling Efficiency usually indicates your air conditioner has a performance issue which may be linked to a mechanical problem or occasionally reduced refrigerant levels hindering airflow.

Whilst it is recommended to arrange regular air conditioning maintenance once a year, it is also useful to be able to recognise the signs that necessary maintenance may be needed outside of planned preventative maintenance too. Not only is this helpful to avoid potential breakdowns of your air con unit, but it also will ensure optimal performance so the efficiency of your air conditioning stays high and you can maximise the lifespan of your aircon too.
Key indicators that your air conditioning system may require maintenance service are:

Strange Noises coming from your air conditioning units are very likely to indicate a more serious internal problem which should be addressed as soon as possible for both safety reasons and to reduce further damage that could end up being irreversible if ignored.

Dirty Filters which not only impact air quality but dirt and debris will also mean airflow is obstructed and negatively influence the performance of your air conditioning, resulting in higher electricity use which will be reflected in your energy bills.

The benefits of Maintaining your Air Conditioner

Prevent expensive repairs

Without maintenance, higher running costs won’t be your only issue as that same wear and tear created by small issues will gradually worsen over time. A minor issue an engineer can resolve during maintenance, such as clearing dust and checking working parts are adequately lubricated will have a direct impact on the performance of important components such as the compressor. As a result, professional annual maintenance will reduce the likelihood of component failure within your air conditioning by as much as 80%!

Keep your running costs low

Whilst something simple such as clogged filters and dust accumulation seem like relatively minor issues, these small issues collectively put additional strain on the operating functions of your air conditioning. This creates additional wear and tear as your system has to work that much harder to achieve the desired temperature and worse still, it will impact energy consumption by using more electricity too!

Increased Life Expectancy

Wear and tear makes all the difference when it comes to running costs and potentially expensive repairs, although both will also play a part in contributing toward the overall life expectancy of your air conditioning. It is completely true that AC can last up to 15 years or more, although that longevity is achieved through prevention of major issues and simple annual maintenance plays a key role in those preventative measures. Without these annual check-ups, your air conditioning is highly likely to have its life expectancy reduced by approximately 35% or more!

Protect your Warranty

Last but certainly not least, it is very important to note that having a warranty will cover you for manufacturer defects but in order to qualify you must ensure your air conditioning units are professionally maintained a minimum of once per year.

What is included with air conditioning service and maintenance?

Having the peace of mind knowing your air conditioning’s lifespan will be prolonged with planned professional maintenance is great, although you might want to know exactly what is done during the maintenance process, so we’ve put together a quick breakdown so you know what to expect when one of our engineers pay you a visit!

An air conditioning maintenance completed by an MAC engineer will include;

– Cleaning filters, airways, evaporator coils and condensate pumps.
– Inspecting insulation, pipework and wiring.
– Completing service reports and checking for leaks, pressure and refrigeration levels.

What if your air conditioner needs replacing?

Whilst air conditioning that is regularly maintained can last upwards of 15 years, if your air conditioning has already been in use for this length of time or it lacks some of the features offered by the latest AC models produced by the likes of Mitsubishi or Daikin, it may be worth considering a replacement system entirely. MAC provide air conditioning installations for buildings of all shapes and sizes, whether it may be an air conditioning unit for your home or one of the many commercial properties across the midlands, all air conditioning requirements are considered.

Specialising in the install of air conditioning units with a variety of air conditioning solutions adapted to suit your needs, our team are passionate about providing the very best options designed to run as efficiently as possible bespoke to your specific requirements.

You may not need a new Air Conditioning System if your existing units can be repaired

For professional air conditioning repairs, look no further than MAC to provide all the callout support and advice you need to resolve an emergency breakdown or longer term malfunctions so you can get your AC up and running again as soon as possible. For domestic or commercial premises including schools, households, offices and more, MAC’s expert team offer repair services for all types of air conditioning repair.

Air Conditioning Maintenance FAQs

Do air conditioners really need maintenance?

Even in the UK a professional AC maintenance should be completed at least once a year and it’s essential if you want to make the most of your air conditioning in terms of keeping running costs down, maximising its lifespan and for health and safety reasons.

When it comes to the specifics of maintenance frequency, the benefits and whether it is mandatory to arrange maintenance for your AC, read on to find out more.

AC repairs are not included with a maintenance visit, servicing may sometimes refer to repairs but they are not part of a standard service for maintenance.

As a homeowner you are directly responsible for the maintenance of your air conditioning system, whilst if you are a tenant it will be the responsibility of the building owner/manager.

When referring to air conditioning, routine maintenance and a service generally mean the same thing, although servicing can sometimes get confused with repair visits which are not the same.

Water leaking from your air conditioner is usually caused by dust and dirt accumulation either in the filters or condensate drain of your air conditioner. This will usually be due to requiring a professional clean as part of annual maintenance, although it can be a symptom of a more serious issue and should be investigated properly by a qualified AC engineer.

Whilst air conditioning for cars operates on the same principles as regular AC for buildings, it is not exactly the same as they operate via the vehicle engine and will require a car mechanic instead of an air conditioning engineer to address any faults or maintenance. Car AC systems also use a completely different type of air conditioning refrigerant (usually R-134A or R-1234YF) to air conditioning systems used in buildings (usually R-32 or R-410a for older systems) and they are not interchangeable.
