What Our Customers Say

Air Conditioning Unit FAQs

The cost of an air conditioning unit depends on several factors, making it difficult to give a one-size-fits-all price. Here’s why:

  • Size of the Space: Larger rooms or commercial areas need more powerful units, which generally cost more.
  • Type of System: Different air conditioning styles (window units, portable units, split systems, etc.) have varying price ranges.
  • Features: Advanced features, like smart controls or extra-quiet operation, can add to the cost.
  • Installation: Professional installation is essential for proper function, and that cost is factored into the total price.
The best way to get an accurate price is to use our online quote tool or give us a call. We’ll ask a few quick questions to give you a tailored estimate for your specific needs.

The cost of running an air conditioning unit depends on several factors, so it’s not a straightforward yes or no answer. Here’s what you need to consider:

  • Energy Efficiency (SEER Rating)
  • Size of the space
  • Frequency of use
  • Electricity cost in your area
  • Temperature Setting

Generally speaking:

  • Modern air conditioning units are significantly more energy-efficient than older models.

Tips to reduce costs:

  • Choose a unit with a high energy efficiency rating.
  • Size your AC unit appropriately to your space.
  • Set your thermostat to a reasonable temperature.
  • Close blinds and curtains to reduce heat gain.
  • Regularly clean or replace the air filter.

1. It’s All About Refrigerant

Air conditioners use a special chemical called refrigerant. This refrigerant has the unique ability to change from a liquid to a gas and back again, readily absorbing and releasing heat.

2. A Closed Loop

The air conditioning system is a closed loop of components:

  • Compressor: Acts like a pump, compressing the refrigerant gas, making it hot and high-pressure.
  • Condenser Coil: This coil is outside. The hot refrigerant flows through, and a fan blows outdoor air over it, releasing heat into the outside environment. This makes the refrigerant change back into a cool liquid.
  • Expansion Valve: This precisely controls the flow of refrigerant, reducing pressure and making it very cold.
  • Evaporator Coil: This coil is inside. Warm indoor air is blown over the super-cold coil, the refrigerant absorbs the heat from the air, turning back into a gas. This cooled air is blown back into your room.

The Takeaway

An air conditioner doesn’t actually generate cold air. Instead, it removes heat from your indoor space and transfers it outside.
