What Is Domestic Air Conditioning?

Domestic air conditioning is air conditioning for your home and other domestic properties. In addition to cooling the air in your house or flat, domestic AC units provide stable warmth much more efficiently than traditional heating systems, cutting both your energy bills and your carbon footprint. Some domestic aircon systems also dehumidify and purify the air. There are several different types of domestic air-conditioning units available on the market and the option you choose will ultimately depend on your unique requirements.

Domestic air conditioning is a cost-effective alternative to central heating, which not only provide you with a cool, refreshing environment in the summer but also create a warm, toasty environment in the winter. Certain domestic AC units are capable of purifying the air and removing humidity, as well.

Whilst it may seem sensible to cover up your outdoor air-conditioning units in the winter, this could actually do more harm than good. External wall-mounted air-conditioning systems are specifically designed to survive – and indeed thrive – in the harsh British elements.

You should never run your unit whilst it’s covered, as this could seriously damage your system, leading to costly faults and perhaps even complete failures.

The cost of domestic aircon isn’t as high as you might think. Ultimately, the price you will pay for your AC system will depend on the size of the space you are cooling and heating. The bigger your space, the more you will pay.

Find the right domestic air con unit for you property by using our domestic air conditioning calculator.

If the cost of running your current air-conditioning system is beginning to soar, it might be time to consider a replacement. Of course, it’s always possible to repair and maintain your system – but if refrigerant refills are becoming more and more frequent and your system is already old, there’s only so much we can do. Sometimes, a new system is the most cost-effective solution, particularly if you opt for one of our newer, more energy-efficient air conditioners.

If you would like to know more about the domestic AC products we supply or what we do, simply get in touch. Our expert team is always happy to advise, whether you prefer to visit us at our showroom, call us on 0121 730 4800 or send us an email. You could also use our online domestic price calculator if you’re interested in finding an appropriate product match or are looking for a quote, but you’re not quite ready to speak to us directly.

At MAC, while we aim to keep our prices as competitive as possible, we understand that the cost of aircon can be expensive. We would always recommend installing the best domestic air conditioner unit you can afford, as quality pays off in the long run. As such, we offer our clients several different payment options.

To determine your eligibility for any of our payment plans, speak to a member of our team today.

Yes, of course! At MAC, we pride ourselves on working around you. We understand that you lead a busy life and don’t want to force you to take time off work or bring operations to a halt just to get your domestic ac units sorted. Our engineers can come out to you any day of the week, including weekends, whether you need to arrange domestic air conditioning installation.

It all depends on the size of the domestic air con system you want to install and the type of property you need air-conditioning for. At MAC, we aim to complete all of our air-conditioning installations as quickly as possible to minimise hassle. If you would like a more accurate estimate, contact our team for an approximate schedule.

We only work with the best aircon systems in the UK. As such, we can guarantee that all our domestic AC units run incredibly quietly. To keep any noise disruption to a minimum, we recommend taking advantage of our domestic air conditioner servicing.

The aircon systems we install are fitted with the latest inverter technology to ensure that they run as efficiently as possible. When home air conditioning units are serviced and maintained regularly, they should be more efficient than traditional central heating systems, potentially lowering your energy bills in addition to reducing your carbon footprint.

Yes! Nowadays, most aircon systems can heat your space, in addition to supplying fresh, cooled air. To find the best air conditioner for homes and other domestic properties, browse our range of domestic AC systems or contact us for free, impartial advice.

When properly maintained and regularly serviced, your home air-conditioning system should last more than 15 years. If you require any AC repairs during this period, Midland Air Conditioning is here to help, giving you additional peace of mind.

At MAC, air-conditioning installation is included as standard with any purchase. We believe it’s essential to ensure that your domestic air conditioner system is fitted by a professional engineer, as failure to install your home AC unit properly could have serious consequences, both for your system and health.

All our engineers are City & Guilds trained, hold full CSCS cards and are F-Gas certified, guaranteeing that nothing will go wrong. They are also able to test your new AC system before they leave, helping to spot any potential problems you may not be aware of yourself.

We recommend servicing your home aircon system once or twice per year. This should keep things running smoothly and identify any potential problems before it’s too late.

Regularly servicing your domestic AC unit is a wise investment. Not only does it give you peace of mind that your AC units are functioning correctly, but it also reduces your energy bills, cuts down on emergency repair visits and associated costs, and ensures that your home, property or equipment doesn’t get damaged by potential leaks. Air-conditioning servicing also reduces the risk of fire and other serious health issues.

Yes. Even if we didn’t supply and install your domestic air-conditioning system, we can fix it for you. Contact us to find out more about the types of AC units and systems we work with either by calling 0121 730 4800 or by emailing sales@midlandaircon.co.uk.

Contrary to popular belief, the benefits of home air conditioning extend far beyond keeping cool in the summer. Air-conditioning systems are also capable of running the refrigeration cycle in reverse, thus providing a steady stream of heating in the winter, as well.

Check out our detailed article on the benefits of domestic air conditioning to find out more.

There are several different types of domestic air-conditioning systems available on the market, each designed to keep homes cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Regardless of the type of system you pick, we can install, service, repair and maintain your systems for you to ensure that they provide optimal performance throughout the entirety of their service life. We’ll come out to your home to help you fix any issues even if your AC units weren’t supplied by us. You may also wish to sign up for one of our domestic air-conditioning maintenance plans, to make regular checks and inspections easier to remember, whilst saving you money on maintenance visits and repairs that would otherwise need to be made.

You don’t usually need planning permission to get home air conditioning in the UK unless you fall into one of the following categories:

  • If you live in a listed building, you may need planning permission before installing an AC unit.
  • Likewise, if you live in a conservation area, you’ll need to check with the local authorities to see if your property is subject to any specific guidelines or rules.
  • If you live in a property subject to any restrictive covenants or leasehold agreements, you’ll also need to obtain permission from the relevant parties – such as building regulation teams and your landlord – before going ahead with the work.

Even if you don’t fall into one of the above categories, it’s still worth checking with your local council to make sure there are no specific rules in your area. Learn more by reading our guide on planning permission for air conditioning.

It all depends on the type of air-conditioning system you choose to install and on the size of your home. Larger homes or homes with multiple rooms may require additional indoor units, making these systems slightly more expensive than their smaller counterparts. Equally, if you choose a system with lots of additional functions, like multi-room temperature control, you might pay a little bit more.

Use our domestic price calculator to find the right type of domestic air conditioning system for your home.

Yes, definitely. Air conditioning is a huge benefit if you’re looking to sell your home, particularly if you have a newer, modern system that provides both heating and cool air. Indeed, if you have one of these multi-functional systems, you will add value to your house regardless of where it’s located in the UK. Conversely, systems that only supply cold air might only add value to homes in the South where the summer weather tends to be warmer.

When it comes to home air conditioning, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. It all depends on the size of your home and the number of rooms you’re looking to heat or cool. Larger homes tend to benefit from larger systems, whilst smaller houses and apartments can get away with single unit aircon in many cases. Split systems allow you to control the temperature of each room individually, which is another important consideration.

Home air conditioning works by continually condensing and evaporating the refrigerant fluid contained within the system pipework. For instance, to provide cold air, the refrigerant gas will be pumped through a series of outdoor and indoor coils, losing heat as it condenses into a liquid. It then passes through an expansion valve in a liquid state, causing it to expand and evaporate into a gas as it absorbs heat and moisture from the air. This makes your home much cooler and less humid.

Read more about how air conditioning works here.

Once you’ve decided which air con system is right for you, we’ll come out to your home to measure things up and determine the best location for your units. It’s important to place them somewhere where they can easily cool your home without blowing directly onto areas where people will sit. The same goes for your outdoor units, which should be placed in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight but close to a power source.

Once we’ve agreed on a location, we’ll set about installing your units, ensuring that everything is level and securely mounted. We’ll then connect your units to the power source, test your drainage system and ensure that everything is running as it should be before we leave your property.

Once installation is complete, we’ll issue you with a full guarantee and make sure you have our contact details should you have any questions or queries.
